Civility Project
In partnership with the Grand Lodge of Minnesota, we are excited to introduce Civility Project, a new program from Minnesota Masonic Charities.
Minimizing Digital Distraction: Masonic Principles for the Modern Age
This initiative is designed to engage the younger generation to teach the importance of decorum, kindness, and civility in today’s society. Rooted in the timeless principles of the Masonic fraternity, this project emphasizes values that are more important now than ever — putting down our phones, making genuine eye contact, and learning to walk alongside those who may see the world differently.
While the Civility Project is rooted in profound principles, it also incorporates fun elements — like etiquette tips and the dos and don’ts of social interactions. These practices entertain and engage us in the core mission to foster meaningful connections and offer a more meaningful way for lodges across Minnesota to connect with their communities.
Between the years of 2003 and 2022, face-to-face socializing among teenagers fell by more than 45 percent.
A recent poll of more than 1,500 American teens found that just over half spend at least 4 hours a day using social media apps such as YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).
The time they spent on social media each day ranged from 4.1 hours to 5.8 hours – and that’s just social media, leaving out other forms of screen time.
